Possible Maps for Supervisorial Districts

This web page shows proposals for new Board of Supervisors Districts, based on 2010 Census data for El Dorado County. Some of these maps were proposed by this author, Paul Raveling, and this page answers requests for maps to be made available. The alternative recommended by this web author is the one pictured on the right above. Clicking on the image displays a large scale rendition. This map is being submitted on July 16, 2011 to the El Dorado County Citizens for Responsible Government for possible recommendation by that group.

In mid-June email I learned that the Board of Supervisors accepted one of my maps for consideration in a group with the five maps originally drafted for the Board by the County Surveyor's Office. As of 6/18/2010 I don't know which of four maps that I drafted is involved, but the most likely maps are Alternatives are identified on this web page as maps PR2C and PR1. This web page presents all four of the my Alternative maps and all five of the County's original 5 maps.

My personal recommendation to date has been to recognize all of these as initial studies, not alternatives which must be either adopted or rejected in exactly the form shown. It is likely that the best possible redistricting map will mix elements of some, perhaps even all, of these maps.

Notes follow the table of map images below. The table shows maps at Medium resolution and supplies links to individual map images at these different sizes and resolutions:

Max: Maximum size, Highest resolution: jpeg image quality = 100%, file size ~ 4-6 megabytes
Large: Maximum size, lower resolution: jpeg image quality = 85%, file size ~ 2 megabytes
Medium: Intermediate size & resolution: 800 pixels wide, jpeg image quality = 85%, file size ~100K bytes
Small: Small size & resolution: 400 pixels wide, jpeg image quality = 85%, file size ~30K bytes
GIS: For each of Alternatives 2A, 2B, and 2C this is a jpg copy of the map image produced exported by the GIS at the Sacramento Central Library.
These images, not shown directly on this web page, use approximately the Max format, file size ~ 6 megabytes.

For the 5 County (CO1 - CO5) maps Max images are the County's released pdf files, each containing a scalable map image. Size is ~ 2 megabytes.

PR1 Full County View Based on CO3 (County Alternative 3), modified to somewhat improve cohesion of areas of similar population densities in west end of County.		Max Large Medium Small
Alternatives PR2A, PR2B, and PR2C all use identical boundaries for Districts 3, 4, and 5. District 4 boundaries with 3 & 5 were altered to keep as much area of "Greater Placerville" as possible within one district. These three alternative maps were created with a GIS to equalize district populations within 1%. Copies of the original GIS-generated maps will be linked by 6/20/2011. The GIS maps are uncolored and more detailed.
