
Jet Freighter Noise
Noise from jet freighters on approach to Mather Field
has become a topic of heated debate in communities under the approach
paths: Cameron Park, El Dorado Hills, Folsom, and Rancho Cordova.
Consequently, the Sacramento County Airport System conducted a study in
2003. Major elements of this study were:
- Measurement of actual noise
levels
- Recording of radar tracking data
for correlation with noise measurements
- Logging noise complaints called
in by residents
- Correlating all of these to
identify how much noise and how many complaints resulted from
individual flights
- Comparing all data for
alternative approach paths:
-- ILS (Instrument Landing System) approach
-- VOR/DME non-precision instrument approach
-- Visual approaches
