Dr. Durston's homeowners association issued an order to cease displaying the U.N. flag, based on a CC&R provision which prohibits display of decorative flags. This rally focussed on and supported the right to political expression through display of flags as its symbols.

Many large flags were displayed, with the U.N. flag appropriately well-represented. The U.S. flag emphasized the messages that freedom of expression is an American value, and that peace -- the U.N. objective -- is patriotic: Maintaining peace only benefits our country. A long line of smaller national flags represented the role of international cooperation in achieving world peace.
